Ireland Holiday
Went with Les, arrived last Saturday, Had a reccie, went to digs, got ready and went on the beer. .pint
Got up on Sunday early, went to Killykeen Forest, felt great, BUT, all of a sudden i felt like ****, ran into the woods and proceded to empty my guts, puked all over the place, God i felt awful, so slept most of the day, in the car.
Les had a good day tho,we put it down to a Chinese meal i had eaten on Friday, Les and myself had eaten the same stuff on the boat, and in the village, !!! skimmers aplenty.
But the fishing went from good to bad,
Best fish fell to Colin, a fine 5lb tench, i'll post the picture later.
We went to Town Lake, got blew off, high winds and heavy rain all morning,
We went to the sandy point on Killykeen, i had one fish, Ron had 3, Les had one and Colin blanked, so we went to the footbtidge again, then the fish started to come to the hook.
The rest of the trip is not worth mentioning, the fishing was dire, the weather was windy, stop.gif, yet another big let down for the fishing trip to Ireland.
The fishing, very slow, altho we did catch, not as much but what the heck. The good sized hybrid at Killykeen saved the fishing, the other places we went to, bah, to bloody windy to detect any bites, we were reeling back in with the maggots sucked to bits!! that was on every cast. If we could have seen the bite, well, thats another story.
I did have a chat with a lad over there about the fishing, !! or rather the lack of it, he said that there are no restrictions about the fertiliser they are allowed to dump on the land, !!! not say there are toxins in the stuff but the excess is drained into the water system !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish the Irish Government would attempt to sort the decline out. We did not even see any Foreign notionals in the boats trawling for pike, in the bar there was only a half dozen English anglers, to me and many othere that says a hell of a lot about the state of angling in Ireland

Sundays bag from Les on Killykeen
And a skimmer from Ron
DAY1
As has been implied the fishing and the weather was very hit and miss. Ron and I arrived at 4.30am on Monday and got the lads up. After a breakfast we headed to the match stretch on Killykeen. Les had bagged up a bit there on the Sunday so we were all hopeful of a few fish and a few fish was all we got. The fishing was very slow although everyone caught a few skimmers and hybrids and golden clangers here got the lucky ticket with a tench which looked bigger that the 5lb it turned the scales to Andy has a pic of me with the tench, which I hope he will post, Mark I was fishing the peg Andy fish last year on Killykeen when I had the pike, Ron was in your peg and Andy and Les on the 2pegs up from the bridge. We did see and few trout rise during the day but I had only one fish take a fly I had chucked out for a change and I missed it. We also have a few pics of Andy fluff chucking on his camera so hopefully they will be posted as well. I must say for someone who has never used a fly gear before Andy did really well to get the amount of line out he did when he tried my rod.
Back to the digs about 3ish and Ron and I crashed out for a few hours. Andy and Les had showered and headed down to the local for a few and Ron and I arrived around 9ish. Time flies when you are having fun and around 1am we left fairly merry from the night’s craic.
DAY2
Up at 7 for a session on Town Lake which lies at the bottom of the garden. We fished the lake from the far bank on the road out of town to Killykeen. The weather was fairly heavy with strong gusts and rain making life difficult so we packed in around lunch time with Ron being the only one with much to report for his efforts I think he had around 10 skimmers, hybrids, roach and perch. The rest of us had 3or4 fish each. I missed a good pike which screamed of with my mackerel tail but by the time I had got out from my brolly and round it had dropped it and I struck in to nothing, it gave the impression that it was a decent size by the run it took
Showered and changed and up the town for lunch.
Back at the digs the lake was to much of a temptation for Ron and myself so we spent a few hours at the bottom of the garden getting a few roach and perch, thankfully the weather had settled a little. Ron got a pic of the sunset which was amazing with the golden hue it put on the water. Andy and Les stayed in the digs.
DAY3
Up at 6 out for 7 heading for some pegs round from Killykeen, we all found sheltered spots out of the wind which as Alec reported from Les would have required a beach caster to and 5oz lead to hold bottom.
Ron on his peg
Me and Les, Les is unhooking a mussel he snagged on the way in.
Colins peg
We moved round to the match stretch after these pics were taken and we had a few fish with Les and I taking around 25-30 fish between us. Andy and Ron had a few but things were slow for them. All the fish seemed to be shoalled up just in front of us. As we left the pegs some more English lads arrived an a young lad in the party took my peg and was into fish immeditaly in to fish.
All in all a nice few days spent with the lads and as always it was the company and the banter that made the few days what it was. So thank you to Andy, Les and Ron for an enjoyable time. Ron is a non-believer in the 'Little Folk' even though he seen a grave stone at Killykeen which Andy has a pic of also
