River Trent
Great to be back down the PAD stretch of the river,
When we arrived it was hand shakes and greeting all round. I had a nice hot cuppa, got sorted out with other stuff the Daz and moi put the bivvys up.
I fished peg one, after Mark and Scouse pre baited it for me :nice1:  .
Anyways i set my gear up, Mark let me use his deadly barbel rod and bait :nice1:
Not long of a wait, then the tip started to bounce, LEAVE IT said Mark, which i did, after a good few more bites i decided to STRIKE, missed it.
Pah not to worry, Mark decided to go and have a chat with the lads.
I was steadily feeding 4mm and 6mm halibut pellets into my swim, i was watching the rod tip intently, then i was looking at my surroundings, i will never cease to be amazed at the beauty of the River,
I noticed a little bounce on my rod tip, then another, then yet another, on the the 4th bounce i lifted into the bite.
Pah missed it, or so i thought, the rod bent double, so i lifted it high so io could follow Marks instructions to get away from the snags, the fish almost pullede the rod from my hands, i then grabbed the rod blank with my left hand, lifted the rod again the i saw it, a beauty, into the low double i and Mark guessed,
That ticked me off big style, i went to see Mark and the lads, i then told them about it. At which point Mark and Les had a look at the line, the lines FRAYED, !!!! the only reason that we came to was that the line was rubbbing on a snag !The session ended, so it was decided a trip to the pub was called for.
Saturday
Not to be out done Mark set another rig up, back i went to the peg. Yet again it happened, The line snapped under the weight of yet another fish, the line was checked before and after re-rigging, nothing, not any sign of damage, the line was frayed slightly above the swivel causing it to snap. The line must have been damaged while in the swim?? But what the heck
The session came to an end amid heavy rain. We had a bit chat and the usual banter and mikey taking. It was decided that we,visit the pub, but thats another story.
I did manage to get to Nathans of Derby with Mark, Daz and Les on the Saturday morning.
I got myself a new Wychwood barbel rod, 2lb T/C and a Trabucco baitrunner reel. Nathan chucked in some line for nothing.
After leaving Nathans we went to the local chippy, standing in the queue i heard a customer ask for a "small portion of chips please" i was the young girl behind the counter put this "small portion" in the paper crikey if thats small whats a large portion like. I got a ckicken kebab, mmmmmmmmmmmmm
In the pub a fella stopped me to ask if i was fishing the river, YES i said, oh there was a nice 11lb 3oz barbel from the free pegs, just behind the tree from peg one (my peg) i wonder if the fella got it from my swim ??? that we will never know
Here's my peg for now
Couple of pictures
Here's Bob, PAD Treasurer with Neil on the peg
As ever the huge smile of Ray, happily trotting the river
And the lads who got invited off Mark
And last but not least a l;ocal
